Provincial changes seen as step to eliminating school board trustees

School board trustees fear the province’s plan to create new “student and family support offices” is the first step toward eliminating their roles entirely.

Joe Meisner, who represents Woolwich and Wellesley on the region’s public board, said removing locally elected trustees would be “a step in the wrong direction,” arguing that democratic accountability in education should not be weakened.

In calling for the government to reconsider the plan, Meisner found himself aligned – at least on this point – with Kitchener trustee Mike Ramsay, who is at times critical of his colleagues.
