Locals might not recognize Schaner Park in St. Jacobs after its recent makeover by the Township of Woolwich Environmental Enhancement Committee (TWEEC).

Earlier this month, the committee transformed a previously overgrown grassy patch on Isabella Street into a vibrant habitat filled with native pollinator gardens and spruced-up trees.

The project was made possible by the Waterloo’s Community Environmental Fund. TWEEC received $6,500 for the project.

“Absolutely everything is native it’s all plants for bees and butterflies, but also there are plants with berries and these dogwoods from before,” said Janet Cox, a TWEEC volunteer, landscape designer and landscaper at John’s Nursery.
