Winter is coming, bringing snow with it. This winter is also bringing change for those in Elmira, as the township has discontinued its longstanding sidewalk snow-clearing service, meaning residents are responsible for clearing their own walkways, just like those elsewhere in Woolwich.
A new program is now in the works for those such as seniors who worry about complying with the bylaw to clear the sidewalks in front of their homes.
Since Woolwich axed its sidewalk snow-clearing program earlier this year, questions have loomed about options for the elderly and others unable to shovel. Their calls have been lighting up the switchboard at both the township and Community Care Concepts, who last month came to a financial agreement to deploy the Snow Angels program – a collaboration that will see brokered workers and volunteers coming out to do the heavy lifting.
