Where once there were trees, there shall again be trees Woolwich councillors decided in putting a green stamp on plans to repave Arthur Street through downtown Elmira.
Still moving ahead to carry out the much-needed improvements this summer, the township wants to refill the spaces previously occupied by trees, the last of which was removed in 2015 as some had been infested by the emerald ash borer, a destructive beetle that killed some and threatened others.
At a March 10 meeting, councillors looking to have the Region of Waterloo repave Arthur Street this year suggested planter boxes would suffice given that more involved plantings would require another year’s delay.
