The severe weather that ripped through the area September 2 had some of the trappings of a tornado, but fell short of that designation.
A tornado vortex signature – a radar detection that indicates the possible presence of a forming tornado – was observed near Bamberg, but was later categorized as straight winds rather than the rotation of a tornado.
“It was suggested that there was debris in the air, and going up to at least 1,000 feet,” said Rob Kuhn, a severe weather meteorologist with Environment Canada’s Ontario Storm Prediction Centre.
