The “fibres only” label on one of the two new blue recycling boxes has left some residents baffled and annoyed that a clearer description wasn’t used for what are largely paper products.
Adam Belyea, of Elmira, said the use of confusing jargon – instead of plain English – initially made him think of “fabric,” leaving him wondering if the container was for discarded cloth.
“Whatever it is, it’s kind of a mystery,” he told The Observer.
