“The butcher knife goes in, first, at the top/And carves out the round stemmed lid,/The hole of which allows the hand to go/In to pull the gooey mess inside,” wrote poet Mac Hammond when describing the tradition of carving a pumpkin.
But pumpkins have never come in just one colour for that act, even though the quintessential symbol of fall and Halloween has been the traditional orange gourd.
And at West Montrose’s Forest View Garden, they are showing their colours–the pumpkins, in fact.
