The monthly meeting of the Historical Society of St. Boniface and Maryhill Community was held on Monday, September 24th at 7 p.m. in the Edward Halter Home.
ARCHIVIST & GENEALOGY – Has been asked to speak at Bruce County Genealogical Society in November. Topic: My Adventure into the Past. Has been working on a Home History (Denise Taylor), Schell Home (Gerry & Donna Seifried) and Bernadette Tinney (Doherty).
BIRTHDAY CLUB – 8 Birthday Cards have been sent during the past month.
BUILDING MAINTENANCE – Now that Fall is here, looking at inspecting the smoke alarms and breakers. In the near future looking at adding more receptacles in the house and perhaps painting the inside the house which has not been done for many years.
CHURCH – There has been 1 death and 2 weddings that have taken place during the past month.
COMMUNITY– Heritage Day was held on Sunday, September 24th and was well attended. The day began with Mass at 10 a.m., tour of the Historic sites and a hot lunch prepared by the Catholic Women’s League. There were presentations, a school History award, anniversaries, birthdays recognized, raffles, silent auction, door & table prizes. Those wishing also visited the Edward Halter Home.
FUNDRAISING – The raffle and silent auction were very successful. This is the Historical Society’s main fundraiser..
MEMBERSHIP – There were 2 new life memberships. 2 deceased members and 2 address changes. There are currently a total of 314 Member households: • 3 Annual Membership and 311 Lifetime memberships.
PUBLICATIONS – Before the meeting everyone helped with stuffing envelopes with the newsletter. These will be handed out or hand delivered this week.
RESOURCE CENTRE – Working on information on the Maryhill Market for the Waterloo Historical Society’s next volume also cleaned up the flowerbeds and they are now for winter weather.
SCHOOL – St. Boniface School now has 3 rooms with air–conditioning, rooms 7 & 8 & library.
WAYSIDE CROSSES – These were well looked after this summer considering the weather.
WEBSITE CO-ORDINATOR – Updates are being done continually. A new home page is in place.
