Five local players were among the crew as the Fergus Whalers sunk their harpoons into the Schmalz Cup on Sunday as the team defeated the Tavistock Braves to claim the PJHL’s top prize.

Elmira’s Joey Martin, Stuart Sinclair, Lucas Carson and Liam Eveleigh, along with St. Clements’ Ryan Forwell, were all aboard as the Junior C squad hauled in the catch.

“It’s definitely more than I thought it would be. We obviously had pretty high expectations this season with the team we had, but certainly can never know where you’re going to end up, but definitely excited,” said Craig Dool, the squad’s general manager, of the championship win.
