We may not have seen much of the white stuff so far this winter, but members of the recreation committee in Linwood continue to gear up for the annual Snofest happening Feb. 6.

The Linwood Recreation Centre will be bustling with activity starting at 8:30 a.m. with the popular Fireman’s Breakfast. For those who aren’t up quite early enough to catch the breakfast but don’t want to miss out on the fun, a Co-ed Sno-Pitch Tournament starts around 9.

“It’s basically baseball in the snow,” explained rec. committee member Sandi Albrecht. “There is not as much snow as there used to be. We used to have a ton of snow on the ground and when we played Sno-Pitch it was up to our waists – we could hardly run, it was just a riot. The more snow we have on that day, the better, so we are hoping for a good snowfall before then.”

From there, visitors can come inside and enjoy live music during the Music with Brian session, face painting and crafts for the kids, and a Solo card tournament. Additionally, aspiring young talent, air bands and solo performers can have their chance to perform and compete in this year’s Snofest Idol.

And the day of fun does not stop there. In the evening, people of all ages can come out and enjoy the music of local band Blackwater Draw.

“We really try to create events which will involve the whole community – people of all different ages,” said Albrecht. “A lot of the seniors come out for the card tournament and the younger people come for the Idol competition and the dance. There really is something for everyone.”
