It may have begun its life with a different name, in a different building, but St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wellesley can trace its history right back to 1876 – making the congregation 150 years old this summer.
“What a joy it has been to be a member of the St. Mark’s Church family for many years. So many people over the past 150 years have given of themselves and their talents and resources to ensure that the congregation has been a vital part of the Wellesley community and beyond since 1876,” wrote current pastor Dave Hammer, who serves alongside Ralph Dwarika, in a recent church program.
“Some of the current, oldest members were born at the same time as the cornerstone was laid for the newer church building in 1927 and were part of the team that helped construct the addition in 1997 with help from many of the younger members.”
