The Waterloo Regional Police Service welcomed members of Recruit Class #105. The new officers were sworn in during a private ceremony on May 21.
Eleven new constables who had recently completed their basic training at the Ontario Police College received their police badges.
“Congratulations. You being here today is a testament to your abilities and your commitment to this service and the Waterloo Region,” said Bryan Larkin, Chief of Police. “Although the past three months have been challenging, you have all persevered and worked towards the common goal of serving and protecting the community.”
These new officers bring experience from a variety of former careers, as well as post-secondary education, in the following fields: records information management specialist, special constable, developmental support worker, professional soccer player, casino security management, municipal law enforcement officer, veterinarian manager, political science and criminology, criminal justice and sociology, and masters criminal justice and leadership.

10:22 AM | Waterloo Regional Police responded to a report of a collision involving a pickup truck with a trailer and a motorcycle in the area of Nafziger Road and Synder’s Road West in Wilmot Township. The driver of the pickup truck and trailer was travelling north and made a wide right turn into the path of the motorcycle, which was also travelling north. As a result, the motorcyclist was cut off by the trailer, which resulted in the collision. There were minor injuries reported. As a result of the investigation, a 60-year-old male was charged with ‘turn – not in safety’ and ‘fail to signal turn.’
10:30 AM | Members of the Wellington County OPP, along with Mapleton Fire/Rescue and Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services, responded to a single- vehicle rollover on Highway 6 near Side Road 19 in the Township of Mapleton, where a straight truck loaded with granular fertilizer left the roadway and rolled over. The driver and lone occupant was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
2:21 PM | Police received a report of theft in the area Flanders Road and Fountain Street North in Breslau. The victim advised that their wallet was stolen from their vehicle sometime between 7:15 a.m. and 8 a.m. The victim’s debit card was then used several times at locations in Kitchener. 2:41 PM | Waterloo Regional Police responded to a report of a male seen walking around the area of Maryhill Road and St Charles Street East in Maryhill with a firearm. Officers located the male shortly after arrival, and spoke with the man and witnesses. Through investigation, the firearm was determined to be a pellet gun. Police did not have grounds to lay charges.

8:54 PM | Police investigated a report of a break-and-enter at a Killdeer Road, Elmira address, eventually determining the situation was a prank.
MAY 24
1:33 PM | Waterloo Regional Police received a report of a theft in the area of Sandhills Road in Wilmot Township. A catalytic converter was stolen from an RV that was parked in the area. A similar theft of a catalytic converter was reported on May 23 in the same area. The thefts are believed to have occurred within the last several months. 8:54 PM | Police received a report of a vehicle colliding with a deer near Nafziger and Berletts roads in Wilmot Township.
