As the Victoria Day weekend approaches and gardeners get ready to start their planting, some locals head to an unsuspecting spot for their seeds: local libraries.

To foster community and encourage local gardening, the Region of Waterloo Library’s branches each have their own seed library, a designated bin filled with unique seeds donated by the public.

There is no official list of what seeds are available at each branch. Interested residents just drop by their nearest library to see what is available. Even non-library card holders can use the service, with each person allowed to take up to five seed packets.
