With the Christmas season just around the corner, Woolwich Community Services have announced their second annual Angels in our Lives fundraiser. From Nov. 20 to Dec. 23, WCS will sell clear acrylic or white china angel ornaments to recognize those people who have made an impact on our lives and to raise funds for the Woolwich Youth Centre.
“We’re always looking for ways to fundraise for the youth centre, and with it being the holiday season we thought it would be a nice fundraiser where people in the community could not only support the youth centre but also celebrate someone special in their life as well,” said Leigh-Anne Quinn, community resource coordinator for WCS.
The angels sell for $8 apiece, or $20 for three. The group sold about 80 angels in their first year, and Quinn said they’re looking to increase that number in this their second time around.
Last year the angels also had the name of the individual being recognized written on them, but Quinn said they decided to make the angels blank this year in an effort to make it more convenient for customers to just come in and leave with an angel that same day.
For every angel sold, a paper cutout with the name of the person written on it will be hung on the Christmas tree in the front foyer of the Woolwich Memorial Centre.
“We hope that this year being the second time, people will really take to it and it will help support the centre,” added Quinn.
Angels are available for purchase at WCS Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 73 Arthur St. South, and at the WMC customer service desk located at 24 Snyder Ave. South from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The WCS is also gearing up for its annual Christmas goodwill hamper program. Every year WCS distributes about 150 baskets full of holiday food and presents to the less fortunate in the area. Donations for that program are due on Dec. 9.
