It will take nearly $9 million to keep A Better Tent City running now that the Region of Waterloo and The Working Group are set to take over operations of the tiny home settlement on July 20.
The community is intended to give long-term shelter to homeless and difficult to house people.
A staff report estimates the 42-home site will require $6 million a year in upkeep, plus a one-time $2.5-million infusion to deal with cabin repairs and refurbishment. Three full-time workers will be brought on.
