The final meeting of 2018 of New Horizons took place on Thursday December 13th at the Maryhill Heritage Park Community Centre. Sandra Bray, who is a sustainable activist from Elmira was guest speaker and spoke on ” Going Green while Going Grey. She has been trained by Al Gore on Climate Change and twice a year they have a review. She spoke on global warming and how it impacts us locally and globally. She recommended the book “100 ways to Reduce your Carbon Footprint”. Her hour and half talk went very quickly as many people asked questions. She stressed people should beginning writing letters to government officials stressing the importance of protecting our environment.
She also had books available on “Simply Clean”. Cleaning recipes that are environmentally responsible. She has an environmental friendly car and a draw was made for one of the people present to have a ride in her Chevrolet Bolt electric car. Joanne Nederend was the lucky winner who will go on a ride shortly and also Doug Zinger and Grace Veitch won water bottles.

Next meeting will be on Thursday January 10th 2019. New Horizons meet every 2nd Thursday from 10 – 11:30 a.m. at the Maryhill Heritage Community Centre. Admission is $2 with refreshments and delicious snacks made by Sandra Hachborn . Next speaker is Karen Coviello, chief executive officer for Habitat for Humanity. Her topic: Building homes and hope.
