Most of us probably feel like our individual garbage habits are a drop in the bucket. Throwing away the odd granola bar wrapper or takeout container doesn’t feel like it has a massive impact. However, those items quickly add up.
According to provincial data, the average person in Waterloo Region throws away 250 kgs of household garbage each year.
“When you add business waste, it’s more like 700 kilograms per person per year,” said Tracy Annett, senior environmental engineer at the Region of Waterloo’s Waste Management department.
