Grace Baillargeon was presented with the Victoria d’Agostino Book prize award at St. Boniface School on Thursday, June 24th during the morning assembly.
She was chosen by the staff at St. Boniface School and nominated for this award. This is the ninth time a grade 6 St. Boniface school student has received this special award.
Grace was awarded a beautiful hard cover book entitled “The Grand River – An Aerial Journey ”, featuring photos and text by Carl Hiebert. The book was presented to Grace in recognition for her contribution to the community through her generous spirit towards others. The award is also for her sportsmanship, academic excellence and good citizenship.
Alexandra Thaler was presented with the Victoria d’Agostino Book prize award at the closing St. Boniface School assembly on Tuesday June 26th.
She was chosen by the staff at St. Boniface School and nominated for this award. This is the fifth time a St. Boniface student has received this special award.
Alex was awarded a beautiful hard cover book entitled “Canada’s National Parks – A Celebration”, complied by various photographers. The book was presented to Alex in recognition for her contribution to the community through her loving and generous spirit towards others. The award is also for her sportsmanship, athletic accomplishments, academic excellence and good citizenship.
In 2002, eight year old Victoria d’Agostino died tragically in a car accident. During her short life, Victoria touched the hearts of everyone she met and made our community a better place to live. She had remarkable qualities and abilities and is remembered for her love, kindness and generosity to others. During her short life, Victoria touched the hearts of many people. She loved reading and learning and excelled academically. A foundation fund was established within the Kitchener-Waterloo community in her memory.
The proceeds from this fund are used each year to recognize other children in our region who are also making our community a better place by their example. Victoria an avid reader who had hoped to become a teacher, which is why a book prize was chosen to be awarded to a student each year in her memory. This is the eleventh year that Victoria’s Fund has awarded these special book prizes to a grade 6 student in the Regional Municipality of Waterloo.
