How do you transform a historic feed mill into a high-end guitar shop? That was the task Sherwood Music set for themselves when they acquired the former site of W-S Feed and Supplies in Conestogo, aiming to radically renovate the dilapidated building into a destination for music connoisseurs.
It was hard to imagine at first. The brick building situated on a sharp decline off Sawmill Road was essentially a skeleton, with no septic field, electrical wiring or fire escape, built on a floodplain along the river on a property populated with giant metal siloes. Converting it into a commercial space would require years of work, and no shortage of vision.
“We were looking for an option that would be a unique setting for us, and a place that would be a destination for people to come to. It was hard at first to see the vision, but we were all really excited about it,” Sherwood Music’s Owen Mitchell told The Observer.
