A University of Waterloo study found that people with early dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) and those with early Parkinson’s disease walk differently.

Wellesley’s Dr. Kaylena Ehgoetz Martens found that patients with Lewy body walk more slowly by taking shorter steps than those with Parkinson’s.

These two neurological conditions already share many similarities, including changes in movement, which can often lead to misdiagnosis and affect treatment decisions, care planning, and expectations for patients and families.
